ESXi 3.5 update 2 test drive

Taking a long time view Veritas job history

If the Symantec Backup Exec job history takes a long to load and when it does, it is blanked. This usually means the database is too large and needs to be compacted. Use the commands at your own risk.

Another project completed

After 3 months of straightening up processes, my work at this charity is done. Along the way I managed to rebuild a Linux server. My first production Linux server, not really setup as I actually wanted it but due to the tight timeline, I went live with it.

Besides the mundane day to day administrative work, the more fun times include, changing the core switch.

Migrating Symantec Endpoint Security Management Server

Symantec Endpoint Protection is a marriage of Symantec Antivirus 11 and Sygate Firewall. As a result the management server is quite a different animal from the previous version. It is much more similar to Mcafee ePO.

There are times you need to move the management server after installation.

If you need to manage a Linux server and you hate the CLI interface, check out Webmin. It really rocks for Windows savvy users. You can access Linux and all its guts without figuring out how Gnome works.
